What to do after the perfect Maision du Mezze Lebanese Pre-Theatre dinner? Hit London’s West End theatre district for one of its jaw-dropping shows!
As we are located in the heart of Leicester Square, aka London’s theatreland, Maison du Mezze is in the perfect location as a pre-theatre restaurant. If there is a West End show, chances are we are no more than a stone’s throw away from it (incidentally, there are some fabulous cinemas next to us, too!). Therefore, no matter which celebrated musical or play – or even a performance at the Royal Opera House or Royal Ballet – you will be seeing, Maision du Mezze’s will be no more than a five to fifteen minutes’ walk away, meaning delicious Lebanese cuisine is firmly back on London’s pre-theatre menu.
Only question now is… what are London’s most popular shows?
The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre
As its been over 23 years since the Disney movie on which the Lyceum Theatre’s production is based first came out, there really isn’t a need to detail the plot here. Suffice it to say, it involves lions and perhaps even a king! All you have to know about this one is that it first opened at this historic London theatre in 1999 and that the current production has recently been re-invigorated by one of the world’s most innovative directors – Julie Taymor. Taymor, for whom The Lion King was her time directing a musical, not only brings to her Tony Award winning production the full breadth of her experience in directing epic theatre and opera, Disney actually gave her creative licence to add to and open out the original plot. Expect more than a few surprises in this canonical West End musical!
Mamma Mia! At the Novello Theatre
This heavy-weight musical is the epitome of a ‘Marmite’ West End show for a very particular reason – it is set to the music of ABBA. Either you love the 1970s Swedish, Eurovision-winning pop band or you don’t; and if you do, you will utterly adore this Laurence Olivier Award-musical. ABBA’s oeuvre is woven through a story that is set on an idyllic Greek island where a young girl digs through her mother’s pop-star past to find out who her father is so he can walk her down the aisle at her wedding. A must-see if you’re an ABBA fan!
Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre
Finally, for those for whom a delicious Lebanese feast makes one crave even more from Arabia, we suggest you check out Aladdin. Based on the much-loved Disney film, this sensational musical features one of the West End’s most complex and technologically advanced productions ever. Boasting a flying carpet, 350 dazzling costumes that sparkle nightly with over 2 million Swarovski crystals and larger-than-life 30-foot palace gates, Aladdin is special by any standard. It is directed and choreographed by the multi-award winning Casey Nicholaw of The Book of Mormon and Dream Girls fame.
These three critically acclaimed productions are merely a handful of what London’s West End has to offer. Maison du Mezze inhabits one of the world’s best theatre districts, and we intend to give it a distinctly Lebanese flavour for years to come!
